Detox Greens Drink

St Patricks Day ThirstDetox drinks, smoothies, teas and all manner of detox protocols are popular. Ideally, you want to keep your body detoxed on a daily basis by eating a clean diet, drinking clean water, using zero to low toxin body/bath products and household cleaners, and minimizing toxins in your environment.

I developed this detox drink as a safe, easy way to support your daily detox by using cilantro and parsley, two naturally detoxifying herbs. Cilantro is thought to detox heavy metals, like mercury, lead, and aluminum in our system by binding with them and allowing them to be more easily eliminated. We are exposed to toxic metals daily in our food, water, and air. Parsley is thought to be a blood purifier and diuretic that supports the kidneys detox efforts. Parsley also supports the body’s production of glutathione, which is the body’s master antioxidant. Both parsley and cilantro contain multiple anti-oxidants and have several health boosting properties and benefits.

I like drinking this at breakfast. Be sure to buy organic cilantro and parsley (or grow your own organically).

INGREDIENTS:

½ c. coconut milk (use BPA free canned – light)
½ c. almond milk (Silk unsweetened is okay) or use clean water
¼ tsp. mineral salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Flat leaf parsley (about 6 large stalks)
Fresh cilantro (about 1/3 of a bunch if buying from store in a bunch)
Optional: fennel fronds (not bulb!) – this is good if you tend to have gas and bloat or fresh mint leaves

DIRECTIONS:

In a blender, combine all ingredients. If this tastes salty to you, cut the salt to 1/8 tsp.

Other ideas – If you are a heavy or regular exerciser, you could replace the milks with coconut water to get more electrolytes. If you want even more detox, you can boil up a cup of detox tea and use that in place of the milks or in addition to.
