How to Make Your Own Pumpkin Puree Instead of Buying Canned

While it is more convenient to buy canned pumpkin, you don’t always get all the fiber and nutrients that you would if you used a whole pumpkin.  And since it is October as I write this, whole pumpkins can easily be found.

Pumpkin puree can be used in smoothies, tasty treats, and even face treatments.

To make your own pumpkin puree, obtain one small pumpkin (preferably the variety designated for pies).

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cut pumpkin in half and remove seeds (can save them for roasting) and place pumpkin halves in large glass baking dish cut side down.  Add about an inch of water to dish.  Bake for about an hour or until pumpkin meat is soft.

After removing from oven, allow pumpkin to cool, then scoop out flesh and process in food processor until desired consistency.
