About Coach Duncan

melanieMy name is Melanie Duncan and after several years as a financial executive, co-worker, friend, family member, and wife, I realized from my business and personal relationships what effect poor health can have on individuals. I also began to realize that in most cases a person’s health and their fitness level are directly impacted by their lifestyle. I decided to make a career change to health coaching after taking charge of my own health and fitness, so that I could help others conquer their health and fitness struggles.

There is no one size fits all solution out there which is why I am constantly researching and applying what I have learned to be able to provide my clients with the best possible information and guidance to assist them in reaching optimal health. I am passionate about what I do and I want to help people reach their health goals. I perform personal consultations as well as teach courses on a variety of health and fitness related topics. Personal training and nutrition packages are available for purchase, as well as a Superhuman Health Coaching package for those who want to reach optimal health and fitness for their lifestyle.

I am an ACE certified Health Coach and a Certified Superhuman Coach. My education and training enables me to provide exercise programming, nutrition advice, weight management strategies, techniques to facilitate behavior change, and support for lifestyle changes.

I am a firm believer that our lifestyles and environments impact our health and fitness in a multitude of ways, and I believe in taking a holistic approach to health and fitness.

The More Personal Story

For years, I worked in an office at a stressful job with little time for exercise and nutrition. I didn’t have any major illness and I was not particularly overweight (maybe just a little pudgy and soft), but I had little nagging health issues and could not be accused of being “fit”. But in 2005, my father died at the young age of 60 after being overweight and unfit for years. His death prompted me to make changes that I had only contemplated, but had never taken action. The first step was going organic. Then cleaning up my environment (more natural bath products, cleaners, etc.). Then I started exploring exercise. Next was more effort to grow my own food and cook it, rather than relying on packaged food (even the organic stuff) and restaurant food. From there it progressed to quitting my accounting career to pursue health coaching, so that I could help people make the same sort of changes in their lives that I have. It has been and continues to be a wonderful journey through the world of wellness!

I’m always learning and always looking at things and experimenting (there will be blog posts on experiments!). But here are a few of my health beliefs that don’t change:

  • Eat organic, whole, unprocessed food every day – preferably that you prepared
  • Drink lots of clean water – not from a plastic bottle though
  • Take a few quality supplements – they must be right for you and your needs
  • Move every day – exercise is important, but movement is critical
  • Sleep 7-9 hours every night – know how much your body needs to feel rested
  • Build healthy relationships – both social and religious
  • Keep a clean environment – don’t use chemicals on your body or in your home
